Should All Patients Listed for Liver Transplantation Receive Bridging Therapy Before Transplant?

As the success of liver transplantation for hepatocellular carcinoma has grown, the role and utilization of locoregional therapy as a bridge or downstage to transplant has expanded. This article will review the data that supports this approach as well as highlight questions that remain unanswered. It is anticipated that locoregional therapy will remain a the backbone for patients who are awaiting transplantation in an attempt to prevent waitlist drop out and decrease risk of HCC recurrence.
