To evaluate the results of restoring results of the humeral neck – shaft angle (HNSA) on X-ray films after locking plate to treat closed proximal humerus fractures (PHF) in adults. Retrospective study on 42 adult patients with closed PHF treated surgically with open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) by locking plate at Military Hospital 175. Among the 42 patients, there were 22 female patients and 20 male patients, the average age was 51.38 ± 14.63 (range 22–83), the age group over 60 accounts for 26.19%. After surgery, the average HNSA was 129.29 ± 5.23º (range 114.54–135.33). The HNSA reached a good level with a rate of 90.48%, with no cases at a poor outcome assessment level and 100% of group III fractures and 2-part fractures having good results. 20/38 cases of the HNSA with good anatomical recovery results had good to excellent functional recovery, and 1/4 of cases involving the HNSA had fair anatomical recovery results but good functional recovery. Restoring the HNSA is an important factor to achieve good functional recovery in the treatment of closed PHF using general methods, specifically with ORIF by locking plate method.
