To evaluate of the therapeutic effect of prophylactic antibiotics (PA) in clean surgery (CS) for osteosynthesis in the upper extremities. A descriptive prospective study on 62 patients who used PA in CS for osteosynthesis in the upper limb at Military Hospital 175 from March 2022 to May 2023. Evaluation of postoperative outcomes based on ASEPSIS score and the classification of CDC. The efficiency of the PA program implemented at the hospital on the rate of surgical site infection (SSI) in subjects using PA in CS for osteosynthesis in the upper extremities. Among 62 patients, no patient had SSI at the time of follow-up examination. According to the ASEPSIS scale, 98.39% of patients were discharged with satisfactory healing, and the rate of disturbance of healing was 1.61%. The mean hospital stay was 6.15 ± 2.41 days. There were no cases requiring inpatient treatment for more than 14 days. The economic effect is shown quite clearly. The average cost of antibiotics for one surgery was 44.84 ± 30.87 thousand Vietnam Dong (VND). In general, PA are a reasonable choice in CS for osteosynthesis in the upper extremities in the field of orthopedic trauma, bringing both treatment efficiency and economic benefits to patients.
