The potential of edible insects as a sustainable solution to global food security and environmental challenges is gaining increasing recognition. This chapter focuses on the future perspectives of edible insects, examining their role in addressing the growing demand for protein and contributing to sustainable food systems. As the global population continues to rise, the need for alternative protein sources becomes more urgent. Edible insects are highly nutritious, rich in protein and essential nutrients, making them a viable alternative to conventional livestock. Additionally, insect farming has a significantly lower environmental footprint, requiring fewer resources such as land, water, and feed, while producing fewer greenhouse gas emissions than traditional livestock farming. The integration of insects into the food system also presents opportunities for waste reduction, as they can be farmed on organic waste, thus promoting a circular economy. Despite these advantages, the widespread adoption of edible insects faces challenges, including consumer acceptance, cultural barriers, regulatory hurdles, and logistical issues related to scaling production. Research and innovation in farming techniques, food processing, and consumer education are crucial for overcoming these obstacles and realizing the full potential of edible insects in global food systems.
