The adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) has been actively encouraged in the last couple of years by the Government of India in the form of giving tax concessions and developing extensive charging infrastructure. Almost all the major automobile manufacturers have also come forward with different forms of EV, viz. battery electric vehicle (BEV), plug-in electric vehicle (PHEV), and hybrid electric vehicle (HEV). However, the consumer adoption of EVs is observed to be skewed towards certain sections of society. This study attempts to explore key factors pertaining to barriers (negative) and motivation (positive) of EV buying among Indian consumers based on empirical evidence. The study also examines whether the consumers' interest in electric vehicles differs because of demographic variables. Exploratory factor analysis (using the principal component method) and one-way ANOVA methods have been applied using SPSS 29.0 software. For this research, data was collected from people residing in the northern part of India through a self-administered questionnaire. People visiting either car showroom (predominant) or car service centre, were the target respondents. In a country like India, not much is known about what exactly motivates green consumption or a capital investment towards better sustainability. This study attempts to illuminate the behavioural aspects of potential EV buyers so that green transportation can be better implemented in developing economies like India.

摘要
