Understanding Postpartum Disorders and Their Impact on the Family
摘要
Postpartum disorders have been described as the most common complication of the pregnancy and postpartum period. However, the diagnosis of these disorders is often missed, at least early on. This is partly because of society’s romantic notion that the postpartum time is a period of great happiness and excitement. Because of the disparity between expectations and the realities of this period, symptoms of emotional or psychological disorders are often missed. In addition, postpartum mental health issues have not been studied very much until recently, and little has been written about how to identify and treat this set of disorders. This chapter describes common postpartum disorders, their impact on the family and considers interventions to improve the postpartum experience.
