A Glossary of Glossolalia: The Syntactic Conservation of Energy in Alexander’s Prose
摘要
Beginning with an overview of Alexander’s career, this chapter explores the tension between syntactic order and semantic disjunction in Alexander’s prose. It is argued that the glossaries that Alexander often appends to his work attempt to stabilize the semantic field of a keyword while the body of the work itself destabilizes it. Using Alexander’s essay “Language: Leap as Inscrutable Physic” as a case study, the chapter investigates the manner in which syntactic order, which is mostly preserved in Alexander’s work, functions to contain the energy of Alexander’s glossolalia.
