Will Alexander is a prolific writer, and he is a writer who makes proliferation into a central trope and motive for writing. Alexander’s prolific writings are sourced from the discovery of an outpouring of visionary language. “I speak in linguistic cataract, my verbs with the tone of unstable altimeter.” In this poetics, the imagination is endowed with a special kind of symbolic and material abundance: “So I exist with a plenitude which symbol by symbol constructs its own thesis” (101). Alexander approaches the plenitude of language and the manifold of sensations as a compositional baseline for his work. For Alexander, the poem emerges from a sense of the properties of abundance within language systems, and language emerges from a conviction in a primordial abundance of creative reality at micro- and macro-scales.
