A Comprehensive Review on Controlling Forest Fires Using AI Technologies

Conservation of our natural resources, mainly forests and woodlands, has been addressed numerously in many ways. This literature review explores innovative fire safety and detection approaches using Artificial Intelligence (AI) based techniques across various contexts. This chapter comprehensively analyzes existing methods and technologies for fire detection and management. Several contributions are examined where the integration of artificial intelligence and advanced sensing technologies exists. The Intelligent Fire Engineering Tool (IFETool) offers efficient fire safety analysis, demonstrating 97% accuracy in predicting key parameters. AI-based forest fire detection utilizes Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) and transfer learning for early detection. An improved method using Detectron2 achieves higher precision in forest fire detection. The Smart Fire Detection System (SFDS) for smart cities leverages the YOLOv8 algorithm, achieving high precision. An IoT-based sensor solution addresses peat reserve fires, emphasizing early detection and monitoring. Transfer learning from UAV images achieves 99.32% accuracy in forest fire detection. Residential fire detection explores optimal sensor combinations and AI algorithms for accurate and efficient detection. Collectively, these contributions showcase advancements in fire safety through the fusion of AI and cutting-edge technologies.
