This chapter delves into the intricate dynamics of terrorism in Morocco, tracing its historical roots, examining major terror attacks, and analysing the response strategies adopted by the Moroccan government. Despite being considered a relatively liberal Arab state, Morocco has grappled with jihadist threats and political instability, particularly following the Arab Spring. The chapter explores the impact of extremist ideologies such as Wahhabism and the Muslim Brotherhood, alongside the emergence of terrorist groups like the Moroccan Islamic Combatant Group (GICM) and Salafiya Jihadiya (SJ). It also scrutinises Morocco's diplomatic relations, including the recent normalisation of ties with Israel, and the challenges posed by returning foreign fighters. It highlights the evolving counterterrorism measures, encompassing legal reforms, intelligence initiatives, economic development programs, religious reforms, international cooperation, and the prison deradicalisation program.
