Local Patriotism
摘要
Expanding the concept of patriotism to the municipal level, this chapter explores how love of one’s town or city affects civic life and local politics. Drawing on preregistered survey data and experimental manipulations, it finds that local patriotism significantly heightens participation in community events, local elections, and grassroots initiatives. Respondents primed with local pride are more willing to donate resources to improve local infrastructure or social services, suggesting that place-based attachment can reinforce collective action at smaller scales as well.
