Climate change mobility poses questions that point to the core of global and climate justice and developments in the twenty-first century. This paper shows the main ethical aspects of the debate on climate change mobility as well as the developments since its beginnings in the 1980s and presents its most important features and pitfalls. It shows how questions such as whether and how to measure and identify direct interrelationships between environmental change and migration decisions were heatedly discussed and how some of these questions linger on into the present. The main framings and concepts to which the debate is related, such as climate justice, security issues and climate change adaptation, are presented and discussed. Furthermore, the paper illustrates the main normative aspects related to questions of voluntary or forced migration and the safeguarding of the rights of environmental migrants, as these have always been central to the discussion. Theoretical impulses for the debate are brought up, such as climate justice aspects linked to climate mobility and questions of citizenship and de- and reterritorialisation.
