The equations governing the planar beam derived in the previous chapter are nonlinear. In order to make progress with analytical solutions to beam problems we linearize the equations. The linear equations are amenable to classical solution strategies and through these solutions we can gain insight into the behavior of beams. This chapter presents methods of solution to linear beam problems, showing how applied load, shear, moment, rotation, and deflection are related.

摘要

The equations governing the planar beam derived in the previous chapter are nonlinear. In order to make progress with analytical solutions to beam problems we linearize the equations. The linear equations are amenable to classical solution strategies and through these solutions we can gain insight into the behavior of beams. This chapter presents methods of solution to linear beam problems, showing how applied load, shear, moment, rotation, and deflection are related.
