Mathematical Preliminaries
摘要
Mechanics is a mathematical model of how the world works and the mathematical objects we call vectors and tensors are a key part of the language required to translate physical concepts into mathematical statements. Vectors represent quantities like position, force, and displacement. Tensors represent quantities like stress, strain, and moments of inertia. This chapter describes what is true about these mathematical building blocks, independent of their use in the physical theory. This chapter establishes the notation used throughout the book.
