Evaluating Criteria for Sustainable Aviation Fuel Adoption

The aviation industry faces a pressing need for sustainable solutions. Sustainable aviation fuels (SAFs) offer a promising path, but optimal choices depend on a variety of factors. This chapter proposes a data-driven framework for selecting the most suitable SAF option. The framework focuses on four key criteria: Environmental Impact (EI), Economic Feasibility (EF), Technical Feasibility (TF), and Social Acceptability (SA). Air quality data and geospatial analysis assess potential environmental impacts associated with different SAF options. Economic considerations like production costs and feedstock availability are evaluated through cost modeling techniques. Technical feasibility assesses compatibility with existing infrastructure and scalability. Social acceptability incorporates public perception and community involvement. This data-driven approach empowers stakeholders to objectively compare SAF options based on environmental, economic, technical, and social considerations, ultimately selecting the one that best aligns with their goals.
