Hybrid System for the Needs of Electrical and Thermal Energy at a House: Case Region of the South Climate in Algeria

In this study, the supply of electrical and thermal energy for isolated houses located at Tamanrasset region of Algeria is studied. Then, a wind system and a solar water heater with integrated storage are proposed. First, this chapter discusses the status of energy consumption in a house in the four main energy-consuming seasons: Autumn, winter, spring, and summer. Then, to determine the energy needs of a house, taking into account both the architectural aspect and the materials used in its construction, as well as the optimization of energy to meet the needs of the occupants of the house. The selection of the site will focus on the Algerian climate of the south. Optimizing thermal insulation is crucial to ensuring energy efficiency, rational consumption, and consideration of bioclimatic architecture parameters during its design. To address this issue, renewable energy sources are being considered with the proposition of a wind system. The annual evolutions of mean wind speed and direction are examined. The data for the period of 10 years are considered for wind resource assessment available in the study region. The annual energy produced by a small park of domestic wind turbines is determined using the WAsP software. Finally, a solar water heater with integrated storage has been proposed. The obtained results show that the expected wind turbine performance and a solar water heater are significant. Then, the exploitation of wind, thermal energy in this region can be considered.
