This chapter addresses the digital transformation of healthcare in Recife, a metropolis in northeastern Brazil, in line with the concept of smart cities to promote socioeconomic development and quality of life. The analysis focuses on five dimensions: a comprehensive strategic plan, the centrality of technology in service delivery, investment in human and social capital, data governance, and participation in smart city networks. Recife is investing in digital technologies to optimize its healthcare network. “ Conecta Recife,” a hub with hundreds of online services, and the telehealth center, with teleconsultations and telemonitoring, are examples of technological applications. The “Minha Saúde Conectada” program stands out, promoting the interoperability of health data and facilitating citizens’ access to their information. Programs such as “Embarque Digital,” with technological training for young people, and “EITA! Recife,” focused on open innovation for urban challenges, demonstrate the investment in human capital and innovation. The implementation of the open data portal and the creation of the general management of digital health are examples of actions to improve data governance. Participation in national networks of smart cities and international partnerships are also highlighted. The results demonstrate that digital health in Recife drives urban transformation, with positive impacts for fairer and more sustainable cities. Recife’s experience consolidates the city as a model in the strategic use of technology to promote public health and sustainable urban development.
