Miami University is a student-centered university that has built its reputation on an unwavering commitment to undergraduate education and counts itself among a small handful of public or private universities in the nation with a standout business school, the Farmer School of Business, and a top-ranked entrepreneurship program. Led by world-class faculty with a commitment to undergraduate education and a passion for mentoring students, Miami’s undergraduate degree programs in creativity and entrepreneurship benefit from an innovative approach to entrepreneurship education organized around three design principles. First, our degree programs in creativity and entrepreneurship are interdisciplinary by design, drawing students from more than sixty undergraduate degree programs across campus, including students from all five of Miami’s academic divisions. This approach to interdisciplinary education is based on the idea that students think more critically and analyze problems more effectively when they draw on the diverse views of students from disciplines across campus. Second, our degree programs embed practice-based, immersive learning in every entrepreneurship course and co-curricular entrepreneurship program. This approach unleashes students’ entrepreneurial mindsets, ignites their imaginations about what is possible, and motivates them to innovate, create value, and elevate their impact on society. Third, the programs draw heavily from the knowledge and experience of entrepreneurship and business professionals inside and outside the classroom. Integrating Miami’s Entrepreneurship degree programs with leading organizations from ecosystems across the nation strengthens students’ relational capital and produces graduates who not only excel at problem-solving but also apply the creativity and entrepreneurial thinking that virtually every profession demands. Within this structure, Miami University developed a 14-credit hour Creativity in Entrepreneurship Certificate program supported by classroom innovation and multiple student-led creativity co-curriculars.
