In this contribution, NooJ resources are employed in conjunction with XML tagging to enhance analyses of linguistic and narratological features, as this paper marks a novel approach by utilizing XML documents with NooJ to investigate the link between the metanarrative structures of a text and the linguistic information to be extracted in its content. Previous skepticism about the applicability of computational methods in literary studies [1–3] has been wiped by recent research validating NooJ utility in studying lexical choices and linguistic features in literature, in a practice standard we encourage and favor [4–6]. This study identifies the linguistic resources Jean de La Fontaine used to emphasize the metafictional aspects of his work, Les Amours de Psyché et de Cupidon (1669) [7]. XML tagging is employed in the pre-processing phase to single out the different layers of the narratological structure proper of the text to be analyzed with NooJ. Then, we formulate targeted queries to perform statistical analyses and compute collocations, looking first and foremost at the names used for calling the protagonists Cupid and Psyche. Results suggest new interpretive paths for the accounted case study and offer positive feedback and possible enhancements of this same methodology for future applications.
