Integrating Business Studies into Educational Curricula: Enhancing Student Competencies for the Modern Workplace

Integrating business studies into the curriculum is becoming increasingly important to improve business-oriented skills, academia-industry interactions, and economic development. A business degree program helps shape students to be more employable and productive in the workplace. This study highlights the need and importance of a business degree program to enhance students’ skills in line with the demands of the twenty-first century workforce. The study provides an overview of the needs of the modern workplace, key competencies and industry readiness. Emphasis was also placed on a literature review regarding the challenges faced by primary school graduates. It also serves as teaching support for business education in the modern world. A qualitative research approach is used to collect data using descriptive and analytical tools. The study concludes that there is a need for reforms in curriculum, pedagogy and assessment methods to ensure employability and human resource development in the current higher education system in India. The reason for such reforms in these segments is to prepare students for work. The article highlights the importance of integrating business studies into the secondary and higher education curriculum in order to develop skills, adapt them to the realities of the workplace and create a collaborative relationship between educational institutions and the professional world. The study provides a fundamental explanation of the need for a business studies curriculum, taking into account the challenges faced by graduate students and epistemological changes aimed at designing the curriculum to keep pace with change. Future research on this topic will involve collecting more data from around the world to compare and analyze business curricula and workplace competencies, and will aim to implement curriculum changes around the world.
