Leveraging Technology to Enhance Educational Methods: Anthropological Perspectives

This chapter also explored new methods of education, using anthropological teaching as a way to contextualize the meaning and use of technology. In this chapter we seek to understand how technology can become a viable vehicle for knowledge by trying to understand new possibilities for ways of teaching and learning. Using a dual methodology of literature review and data analysis, this chapter traces the historical contexts of the relationship between education and technology, with particular reference to historical material on the use of educational models and documentation of past learning to gain insight into new ways of teaching and learning. This chapter develops a theoretical framework of cultural relativism that combines anthropological understanding with educational practice. The chapter creates new ways of understanding educational practice outside the shackles of normative thinking.
