Social Demography and Social Capital: An Introduction and Overview
摘要
Social demography has made great strides in understanding the social underpinnings of demographic behavior. Fertility, mortality, marriage, divorce, and migration all take place in a societal context which, to a greater or lesser degree, shapes that behavior. Here, the concept of social capital is advanced as an organizing and optimizing principle, one which can provide insight into what motivates demographic behavior. The social capital perspective is elaborated further, and serves as a backdrop to the brief descriptions of the chapters in this volume.
