The increasing global population demands for food security and safety, which is utmost necessary for obtaining sustainable development worldwide. Alongside, the present issues of heavy metal contamination in food have gained attention due to their serious health risks. Heavy metal(loids) is introduced through anthropogenic as well as natural activities which interrupts plant growth by induction of oxidative stress and finally alters nutritional properties of crop. Prolonged exposure to contaminated soil can result in toxicity of metal(loids) in fruits, vegetables, and cereals at levels that surpass safety standards. Consumption of plant based product produced in contaminated soil has been associated with health related problems, including malnutrition, digestive disorders, and neurological damage. Hence, a broad understanding of heavy metal(loids) was done in the light of the producer food chain and buildup in the food supply, ultimately affecting both environmental and public health.
