In this chapter we will briefly explore how medical educators can ask questions in ways that help to reveal student thinking. We will review different types and levels of questions and remind readers what each type and level afford. However, the main focus of the chapter will be on exploring the “3rd turn” (the response medical educators give after students answer a question) and how the third turn can be used to further elicit student thinking.
