Between 2017 and 2021 the U.S. Federal Government procured 2.9 trillion dollars of supplies and services with 27.7 million contracts placed with companies in 2,820 counties across the 50 states of the union This paper joins Federal Procurement Data System–Next Generation (FPDS-NG) data from the Systems of Award Management (SAM.GOV) website with Internal Revenue Service Statistics of Income (IRSSOI) and U.S. Census County Business Patterns (CBP) data to demonstrate the ability to make a successful join and extrapolate inferences about the influence of federal procurements on community economic growth. This paper compares economic metrics from IRS and Census for counties with federal contract to counties without federal contracts. The results indicate a potential for using the data reported and collected to ensure regulatory compliance in federal contracting and economic data to research the outcomes of Federal Procurement Policy.
