Clean technologies can meet energy needs in a cleaner, more efficient, and environmentally friendly way than traditional approaches. For several decades, scientific discoveries and technological innovations in renewable energy, energy efficiency, and energy storage and conversion technologies have advanced the prospects for next-generation clean technologies to help address our climate and energy security challenges. This chapter tends to understand the energy systems that are financed and their financing models. It also analyzes the role of technological advancements and associated risks within them and concludes by stating the future scope of such renewable clean energy technology models and about the current dynamics of the finance and technology markets. The investment gap in sustainable infrastructure is a result of political, financial, and institutional challenges. Overall, and in contrast to the underlying technology they are supporting, financing models for renewable energyRenewable energy technologies have changed less over the past two or three decades than they have in other sectors. Across other areas of technology and business, the emergence of disruptions caused by the falling costs of renewables and other forms of clean energy generation ensures that new models are developing at a rapid pace.
