This chapter offers a literature review of the technical details present in this thesis in the interdisciplinary field of power systems and control. This begins with a detailed presentation of the different microgrid structures, followed by the mathematical modelling of each component present in both the power generation and the power consumption sides. Then, a literature review of the different control architectures is presented, focusing on the details of system modelling, stability analysis, resilience, robustness, as well as operational constraints enforcement in the form of voltage and current limitations. This review identifies the gaps currently present in the academic literature, formulating the research directions that this thesis follows.
