A concise overview of the current socioeconomic and environmental challenges is presented, laying the groundwork to formulate the main research questions of this thesis. A plan is developed in the form of the thesis aims and objectives, outlining the steps necessary to address the aforementioned challenges and show how this work fills some of the gaps currently present in the academic literature. The final section of this introductory chapter provides the reader with a brief structure of the contents of this book.
