This chapter explores eco-aesthetic politics through three symbolic figures—mermaids, angels, and cats—each representing disruptions in human perception and ecological awareness. Through historical and cultural analysis, the author examines how these figures reflect tensions between desire, commodification, and ecological crisis. The chapter critiques modern media and economic structures that mediate and distort these encounters, arguing that true ecological aesthetics must transcend commodification and technological abstraction. The reader is challenges to reimagine their relationship with nature through wonder and affect, rather than ownership and control.
