Engaging with Harun Farocki’s concept of soft montage, this visual essay builds on Seed, Image, Ground (2020), a video project commissioned by Fotomuseum Winterthur. The piece explores vegetal growth in relation to media surfaces like screens and images. Rather than theorizing our own moving images, we present a series of surfaces and scales emerging through them. The video functions as a temporal articulation of image surfaces, prompting the central question: “What do images of growth look like?” We also draw on Celia Lury’s “problem space” to explore methodological potentials in split-screen practice.
