This chapter describes how social workers can use the resilience-enhancing stress model’s anti-oppressive approach to social work practice to ameliorate issues associated with chronic school absenteeism. It specifically examines diversity, equity, and inclusion concerns that may interfere with students’ regular school attendance. The chapter explores a range of person-in-environment influences, selected policy factors, and program initiatives that impact student well-being, human rights, service delivery, and access to social services. Practice examples illustrate methods of ameliorating risks and bolstering protective factors associated with school attendance.
