This chapter expands the discussion of the co-construction of an anti-oppressive social work narrative interview guided by the resilience-enhancing stress model (RESM). The first part of the chapter introduces content on culture as a transactional phenomenon and the social dynamics of stigma and marginalization. The second part discusses the four phases of the RESM with a practice example illustrating how a social worker helped a family meet the challenges of discriminatory stress and life course transitions involving pregnancy, motherhood, and the birth and development of a child with developmental delays. Narrative content draws on theoretical concepts from two theorists: Kimberlé Crenshaw’s idea that diversity is reflected in people’s various social positions, and Homi Bhabha’s notion that differences in political and cultural forms may contribute to social exclusion.

摘要
