A virtual economy, existing in the digital world, exchanges virtual goods and services with cryptocurrency acting as its mediator (i.e. currency). Virtual economies have transcended mere entertainment, evolving into complex ecosystems with real-world value. This chapter delves into the historical foundations of these economies, while critically examining existing shortcomings and loopholes. Connecting the major nodes of the entire system of Technological Leverage-Decentralized markets-mega profits, to achieve sustainable growth, building trust and long-term involvement of consumers. The chapter will explore the technology’s inherent benefits, highlighting its potential to revolutionize economic interaction. Furthermore, the chapter will analyse the psychological factors influencing user acceptance and full participation within virtual economies. Employing a comprehensive psychographic analysis to gain a deeper understanding of user needs and primary usage drivers. Finally, the chapter will engage in a crucial debate: is a centralized regulatory body necessary, or can inclusivity and open trade practices pave the way for a more equitable system? Finding a correlation between the lack of involvement of the government that may-may not be the root for potential frauds-capital focused influencing-creating profits, along with the location of these trades i.e. where are they performed and the marketplaces that exist. Through this comprehensive analysis, the chapter aims to contribute to the construction of a virtual economic framework that fosters both prosperity and fairness.
