This study investigates the application of Quality Function Deployment (QFD) and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) methodologies in the obstetric ultrasound service at the Maternal-Perinatal Hospital “Mónica Pretelini Saenz” (MPHMPS) in Mexico. It acknowledges existing quality gaps in healthcare processes, which results in frequent failures; thus, our research aims to quantitatively evaluate service quality and identify improvement opportunities with the operating obstetric ultrasound service, which is essential for pregnancy management. Through a quantitative approach, the study engaged 384 women undergoing obstetric ultrasound at MPHMPS, employing the SERVQUAL model for quality evaluation and integrating QFD and FMEA for identifying failures and assessing the service capacity. The analysis highlighted critical failure modes in the ultrasound equipment, including the screen not turning on, frozen screen, and software loss. Notably, the SERVQUAL analysis unveiled a high level of patient satisfaction in Empathy but identified substantial opportunities for improvement in Tangibility aspects, such as facility organization and cleanliness. Based on the QFD and FMEA results, the recommendations include feasible measures for enhancing service quality, from organizational adjustments to technical enhancements, without requiring significant investments. The study’s integration of QFD and FMEA methodologies provides a comprehensive framework for enhancing quality management in obstetric ultrasound services, emphasizing patient-centered care, efficiency, and technological optimization.
