More than 30 years have passed since the first promotion of biomedical engineers in El Salvador as a relatively small guild that has since diversified its functions over the years in the private and public health fields. This article performs a descriptive analysis of the available data regarding the current status of the involvement of biomedical engineers in the public health sector of El Salvador, comparing the number of biomedical engineers between the present and previous years. It also shows the index of biomedical engineers by population served and medical equipment of public institutions that provide healthcare services, the average monthly salary of biomedical engineers and identifies the main processes within the technology application cycle in which Salvadoran biomedical engineers are most active. This analysis shows if the number of biomedical engineers in the public health sector is acceptable and clarifies the deficiencies, resulting effects or risks around technological management that public health institutions may face.
