Internet of Things (IoT) and 4.0 Industry has been a growing solution in the past decade, although multiple industries have been using it since the beginning of the 21st century to optimize the overall efficiency of their assets, medical and healthcare facilities have been lacking behind in the correct implementation of this technology [1]. This article presents detailed reports gathered through a real-time IoT monitoring system, which incorporates various medical, industrial and environmental sensors to optimize energy consumption, extend the lifespan of critical medical and industrial equipment, reduce downtime of medical processes (OEE), reduce theft within the facility, and improve overall patient care. The findings suggest that IoT-enabled systems are not only pivotal in reducing operational costs but also in supporting healthcare facilities to meet their sustainability goals and improve overall employee and patient quality of life. Field tests also showed how data-oriented decision making and equipment configuration with zero to minimal investment can represent significant savings. In conclusion these results suggest that IoT-based monitoring solutions can significantly improve the sustainable operation of healthcare facilities.
