Building Capacity for a Nationally Contextualised Equality Charter—Key Learnings from Athena Swan Ireland 2014–2023
摘要
The Athena Swan Charter was established in the United Kingdom in 2005 to encourage and recognise commitment to advancing the careers of academic women in science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine. Based on a methodology of self-assessment, peer-review and continuous progression, Athena Swan has since expanded to a broader gender equality remit in higher education, and been adopted in multiple countries, including through its extension to the Republic of Ireland. Drawing upon key data on Athena Swan Ireland applications and award holders and a national survey conducted in 2020, this case study explores the evolution of the Charter framework in Ireland over a decade, including the ongoing challenges and continued adaptation required to ensure that Athena Swan Ireland is fit-for-purpose and sustainable.
