New York’s independent animators have played a vital role in the development and production of animation since the inception of film. In the 1960s and 70s, New York’s independent animation community began to witness a flourishing of artists and stylistic trends that had previously been absent in the studio systems, paving the way for techniques and voices that would alter the trajectory of the moving image well into the present day.
