Thermodynamic Optimization of Supercritical CO2 Brayton Cycles for Waste Heat Recovery Applications

The supercritical CO2 (S-CO2) cycle, with its high efficiency, compactness, broad applicability, and cost advantages, has a broad application prospect in the current field of waste heat recovery. The Supercritical Fluid Team (SUNNP) of NPIC has undertaken an innovative project focused on generating electricity by recovering waste heat from flue gas. Therefore, based on the background of this project (Tgas = 405 °C), optimization study on waste heat recovery cycle is conducted. The results show that the preheating cycle is the most suitable for the project, and the highest power reached 12.18 MW within the range of the study parameters. The influence of pipeline pressure loss on cycle efficiency is also studied and the conclusion is that the influence is more significant on the low pressure side of cycle, and should be considered in cycle calculation.
