The Transformative Role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Digital Lean Manufacturing

Lean manufacturing is a manufacturing strategy designed to eliminate waste within manufacturing processes while striving for the best levels of efficiency. It aims to provide more value to clients with fewer resources as the company seeks to eliminate alternative activities that are not useful. It is a long-term strategy toward enhancement that focuses on regular appraisal and upgrading of the production process to experience superior gains. With the shift to the advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI), lean manufacturing has gone a long way already in transforming the idea of a more superior lean look and too in becoming technology-inclined. This overview paper contextualizes the significance of AI in the optimization of lean digital manufacturing. It also formed that through the adoption of AI into its manufacturing systems, the manufacturing firms can be able to improve their efficiency through real-time data collection and analytical capabilities as well as carrying out predictive maintenance, hence decreasing the incidences of wastes and having improved quality control. In addition, it looks at the integration of both the AI and the lean manufacturing systems in the organization and how AI can be applied to drive improvement across the organization. Thus, this paper strives to present an outlook of current advancement and future direction toward answering the interrogation of how AI is revolutionizing digital lean manufacturing as a way of improving a manufacturing system that is more flexible, adaptive, and intelligent.
