In building innovative practice models, it is imperative that social workers use creativity to come up with new ideas. Creative practitioners are more involved in problem finding, leading the organization to adopting innovative practices. This chapter traces examples of problem finding in graduate student’s field instruction placements and analyses how problem finding leads to creation of social work models. It also compares model building from programme development and identifies the different approach taken in model building. It discusses the different aspects of how to draw inspiration from nature and other created works and how this appreciation and amazement lead to action and therefore rethinking, recombining, and recreating new forms of practice. It also explains how the process of improvisation also helps in real-time reflection in practice and being involved in problem finding while problem-solving. A framework based on the perspective of creativity in social work is applied for developing models of social development strategies and social innovation.
