A Model for Proactive Social Intervention for Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder
摘要
A framework for social workers to provide services to diverse populations, including individuals with disabilities such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD) was developed. Social workers support individuals with ASD and their families and play a significant role in promoting the individual’s safety, community inclusion, and long-term self-sustenance through innovative vocational training programmes that support successful employment. The programme is unique in Thailand in that it involves extensive collaboration between the government, education, and business sectors and it provides a three-month pre-vocational training followed by the opportunity for training on a real job at a real worksite and opportunity for employment. The project demonstrates a new framework of social work practice that includes extensive public and private organization partnerships and community-based vocational training that provides a clear pathway to paid employment. This programme provides a model for how social workers should be proactive in equipping individuals with ASD for the future, as well as providing real-world training that supports the skills needed for long-term vocational success.
