An IP Anti-geolocation Method Based on Constructed Landmarks

The IP geolocation based on network measurement can obtain the geographical location of target IP devices in a user independent manner, bringing significant convenience to location-based network services (LBS). However, illegal locators may also utilize this technology to steal the precise geographical location of target network devices, posing a significant security risk to the target devices. To prevent the disclosure of the geographical location information of target network devices and protect their privacy, this paper proposes an IP anti-geolocation method based on the deployment of constructed web landmarks. By arranging constructed web landmarks, this method can induce errors in the key localization data of illegal locators, achieving the effect of anti-geolocation. In an experiment targeting 156 landmarks in Shanghai, China, with a positional deviation of 20 km for the constructed web landmarks, this method can increase the mean value of the target localization error by a maximum to 31.4 km and increase the median error by 31.8 km.
