Using Google Earth Engine Cloud-Based Service in Upskilling Course for Educators of the Junior Academy of Sciences of Ukraine
摘要
The paper describes the outcomes of the “Fundamentals of Remote Sensing: Processing and Analysing Satellite Imagery on Google Earth Engine Platform” upskilling course for educators conducted by the GIS and Remote Sensing Laboratory of the National Centre “Junior Academy of Sciences of Ukraine”. It discusses the theoretical requirements for organising an educator course and the topics on which the Google Earth Engine platform can be used in the educational process. The course described in this paper was first held online in Ukraine in the winter of 2024 and was open to all interested educators from Ukraine. A total of eighteen educators from 11 regions of Ukraine took part in the upskilling course. Most educators specialize in geography; there are also experts in ecology, geology, physics, computer science, geoinformation technologies, remote sensing, etc. The participants’ responses in two questionnaires and a final interview were used to measure the course effectiveness. The paper describes the stages of the course planning, topics covered and tools used to deliver lectures and practical classes. The paper features examples of research projects completed by the course participants using the knowledge and skills in remote sensing acquired during the training, which were presented at the closing conference.
