Ring Finger Transfer for Thumb Reconstruction
摘要
Thumb amputation after traumatic injury results in significant functional loss especially in pinch and grasp movements. When replantation is not possible or results with failure, reconstruction is necessary. Great toe transfer has the potential risk of altering the balance of the foot which made the surgeons to look for alternatives. Herein, we introduce the transfer of the ring finger which has several advantages, such as minimal donor area morbidity, good aesthetic appearance and does not require microsurgical anastomosis. Transfer of the ring finger can be performed in a single stage without the need for microsurgical anastomosis. This technique is suitable for patients who refuse to undergo toe-thumb reconstruction or for those who have contraindication for free flap operations.
