Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy in Nerve and Crush Injuries

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is the administration of continuous or intermittent 100% oxygen at a pressure greater than 1 atmosphere absolute (ATA) in a closed system. Patients breathe oxygen through a mask, hood, or endotracheal intubation tube once the planned pressure level is achieved [1]. Pressure chambers are used to administer HBOT. Pressure chambers are generally classified as monoplace and multiplace pressure chambers (Fig. 19.1).
