Waste management has always been an important aspect of any human community. Considering the International trends, systems are being focused on issues of sustainability, mainly through the adoption of 3R (reduce, reuse, and recycle) strategy. However, the rate of moving towards sustainability vary, depending upon the economic state of a nation. Developed countries can afford to invest more in 3R technologies than developing countries. Recent attempts surround around “Zero Waste” or “Zero Landfilling,” which is certainly costly for developing nations. For waste management facilities, licensing and permitting standards are established. The huge market of waste recycling and Circular economy facilitates the expansion of green-entrepreneurship which has led to the adoption of green practices which follows the principles of Sustainable waste management. This requires robust policy interventions and bilateral treaties between governments and stakeholders, which will establish a connection between waste-generating and processing sectors. This chapter will provide insights on the current waste management scenario in developing countries and will provide visions provided by scenario analysis, which would help in shaping the future direction of the waste policy. This will lead to strong interventions in policies and mutually beneficial agreements between authorities and individuals. Effective waste management is essential for achieving sustainable development goals while minimizing the environmental and social consequences. The framework’s policy and regulatory components emphasizes on implementing circular economy strategy mainly on eliminating waste, recycling, and reuse. It has provisions for encouraging sustainable design principles, encouraging creation of sustainable items. The policy framework additionally includes efforts, promoting citizen’s awareness and participation. Lastly, best practices related to sustainable waste management which are being followed in various countries are being mentioned to understand, which steps are really important for designing an ideal framework for sustainable waste management, that can be adopted by developing nations.
