The expeditious growth in urban population causes an increase in waste generation and it is expected that it will be increase by 42% in developing countries and by 20% in developed countries by 2049 respectively. The environmental issues associated with rise in waste generation and energy supply system inciting a shift towards a feasible, alternative waste to energy solution globally. Waste-to-energy technologies is emerging as essential for scientists and industries due to enhanced efficiency, growing interest in energy generation from waste, utilizing livestock waste, food waste, waste water sludge and due to decrease in the amounts of waste which are disposed in the environment. Since the production and uses of alternative fuels in transportation and industries lowers our dependence upon fossil fuels therefore, this chapter discusses the potential of waste oils such as waste cooking oil (WCO), waste engine oil (WEO) and waste transformer oil (WTO) as a feedstock for the production of alternative fuels, in context with waste-to-energy recovery. Different waste-to-energy production technologies and various catalysts utilized in the conversion of waste oil to energy were analyzed and discussed in this chapter. However, analysis of the processes such as transesterification, thermal cracking, catalytic cracking etc. are identified as most widely used processes and the obtained alternative fuels have properties similar to diesel fuel and these can be utilized in blended form in diesel engine.
