This chapter examines the complex and often undocumented issue of sexual misconduct within Korean Protestant churches. Drawing from various reports and case studies, it explores the prevalence of clergy sexual misconduct, offering an analysis of the patterns of abuse, the misuse of spiritual authority, and the significant impact on victim-survivors, particularly adult women. The chapter provides a comprehensive overview of how sexual misconduct is defined within religious contexts, highlighting how Korean Protestant churches struggle with both confronting abuse and implementing robust accountability measures. The chapter examines the lack of clear definitions and comprehensive policies across denominations, which create loopholes that perpetrators exploit, making accountability difficult. It also underscores the scarcity of research and data on this issue, which hampers the development of effective prevention strategies and victim support systems. By illuminating the often-overlooked traumatic experiences of victims—wounds that remain largely undocumented due to media and institutional focus on perpetrators rather than survivors—this chapter underscores the urgent need for reform within Korean Protestant churches, advocating for clear definitions of clergy sexual misconduct, robust legal and ethical frameworks, and victim-survivor-centered pastoral care.
