Unveiling Blockchain Technology Dynamics: Empowering Future Generations to Build a Resilient UAE Circular Economy

Blockchain technology has emerged as a transformative force in addressing global sustainability challenges, offering innovative solutions to build a resilient and efficient circular economy. This chapter aims to identify the challenges and potential opportunities in implementing blockchain technology within the UAE’s existing circular economy frameworks. Further, it explores how blockchain technology can catalyse innovation in current and upcoming business models and generate new market opportunities for sustainable circular practices in the UAE. Through the lens of the UAE’s strategic vision for sustainability, the discussion highlights how blockchain applications—ranging from smart contracts to supply chain optimization—can enhance resource efficiency, reduce waste, and promote ethical consumption patterns. Eventually, focusing on setting policy implications for effectively integrating blockchain technology into the UAE’s circular economy framework. The chapter contextualises the discussion to develop an understanding of how blockchain can be implemented to achieve circular economy as well as examines the role of educational institutions and policymakers in equipping the young generation with skills and knowledge to leverage blockchain for sustainability goals. By offering strategic recommendations for addressing implementation barriers, this work contributes to the growing discourse on integrating emerging technologies into sustainable development frameworks.
